2013 Kelleher

2013 Kelleher "Block 21" Sauvignon Blanc

Connoisseurs' Guide 92 points

What an amazing vintage of our classic Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc! 2013 was ideal for growers and we are luck to have 470 cases of this current vintage. Stone fruit, melon, a touch of citrus. Balanced acid.

Robert Parker tasting notes:

The tasty 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Block 21 comes from Oakville. It is an attractive wine with hints of honeyed grapefruit, fresh honeydew melons in a zesty, medium-bodied, surprisingly fleshy style. It’s got some punch to it at 14.4% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next several years.

The 2013 growing season was marked by warm days and cool nights which were perfect conditions for our newest release.  The aromas are dominated by tropical notes, as well as a hint of stone fruit and melon. Aging was done in 90% stainless steel barrels and 10% neutral French oak and we find that this combination really enhances the fruit from this St. Helena vineyard. The fruit forwardness is enriched by the depth that battonage imparts on the wine. The nose is bright with tropical fruits, while the pallet is rich but focused by the bright acidity.  The wine has three main attributes, fruit, richness and crisp acidity.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes The nose is bright with tropical fruits, while the pallet is rich but focused by the bright acidity. The wine has three main attributes, fruit, richness and crisp acidity!
Vineyard Notes The fruit for this wine is selected from one of the most regarded Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Napa Valley, located just south of St.Helena. The vineyard is dry farmed and planted on 5C root-stalk and clone 1 Sauvignon Blanc.
Production Notes Whole cluster pressed and settled overnight. The next day the wine is racked off the lees and warmed to 60 degrees. Native fermentation begins after 3 days and once fermentation begins the fermenting juice is barreled down into 90% stainless steel barrels and 10% neutral French Oak. Fermentation lasts for approximately 20 days and the wine is continually stirred for three months which gives the wine a richness uncommon in most Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc's.
